High Yield Carbon Steel API 5L X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and X80
Stainalloy is highly experienced in the supply of API 5L X grades (X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and X80) piping materials. For over 20 years Stainalloy has been dealing with high yield carbon steel and has gained unmatched technical know-how and excellent relationships with the leading manufacturers.
The API SPEC 5L specification provides standards for pipe suitable for use in conveying gas, water and oil in the natural gas and oil industries.
Pipe manufactured to ASTM106 Grades A or B are not interchangeable with API 5L. Requirements to API 5L X grades are more stringent; rolled grades are not acceptable and re-work is not allowed. Moreover, particular attention is given to toughness and toughness tests for sour services and higher pressure & temperature classes.
The two-digit number following the "X" indicates the Minimum Yield Strength (in 000's psi) of pipe produced to this grade.

High Yield Carbon Applications
Stainalloy supplies variants of Grade X with focus on X65, the stronger variants for drilling, production and transportation requirements for offshore, arctic, deep wells or more severe environments. All in line with API 5L.
The high yield carbon tubes are tubes that can withstand extreme structural stresses. In demanding environments, high yield carbon tubes are exposed to different types of stresses. Therefore, these pipes must be conditioned to withstand the occurrence of stress in the form of wear, compression, strain, shock and vibration.
Performance
Stainalloy is the expert in this field, we work in the industries where these structural tensions often occur. Any of these stressors would be enough to damage a regular carbon steel pipe, but not the high yield carbon pipes. That is why they are also recommended by high-yield pipe distributors. The use of API 5L high efficiency piping ensures high integrity and long life in case of excellent pressures or stresses. This also prevents structural displacements, deformation or mechanical failure during the occurrence of stress.
After processes such as quenching or tempering, it is common for steel alloys to witness a decrease in mechanical properties. Due to the use of High Yield Carbon there is no noticeable deterioration in the performance of the material.
